Dragon Descriptions (Approved): Vampires

Since I write a lot of vampire descriptions, these have their own page. For an overview of all approved dragon descriptions I’ve written, check out Dragon Descriptions.

Montague

Count Secundus – Male CB Montague vampire (2G)
Accepted sometime before 23.01.2014.

As the first pure childe of the Montague line of vampires, Count Secundus is deeply proud of his vampiric heritage and a staunch defender of the Montague ideals in public perception. Normally considering himself far too refined for acts of violence, his precious composure snaps like a meagre twig in vicinity of any identified Capulet, hunting them until he’s either irreversibly lost their trail (after which he’ll be in a foul mood for days) or until he’s given himself the pleasure of slitting their throat. Of course, this doesn’t keep a Capulet down any more than it would knock any other Vampire out of stride, but the symbolic value of the gesture keeps Count Secundus content… and his sire quite displeased – if he were not her first childe, she would have him disowned for his two-faced behaviour.

  • Accept: *shudders* (I really dislike the e on Montagu, but I do know it’s optional.)
  • Accept: Very nice! ~D

The first Montague egg from The Count Project grew up into a proud male vampire. :) I wanted to contribute more to the project than just biting eggs, so I wrote a description for this two-faced little bastard. <3

Count Daedalus – Male CB Montague vampire (2G)
Accepted sometime before 23.01.2014.

Count Daedalus is the second pure childe of the Montague line of vampires and a hunting companion of Count Secundus. The two have a relationship much akin to brothers despite their bloodline technically being separate, with Secundus a childe of Countess Montague and Daedalus a childe of Count Montague. Daedalus tolerates his ‘brother’s’ mood-swings, helping him cover up the worst of his slips of civilised behaviour out of amicable generosity – and because his own neck is on the line, since his sire has on a few select occasions insinuated that he’s responsible of keeping Secundus in line. This is especially true if the backlash might tarnish the reputation of the family as a whole, which would never be tolerated.

  • Accept: I would correct “child” but a quick Google search implied that it’s used sometimes with vampires, so I assume that’s what you mean. :) ~D

The second Montague egg from The Count Project was influenced male for me (thank you, Count!) since I mentioned I had a preference for the male sprite and the egg was still waiting to go to a loving home a while into being bitten. Again, I wanted to contribute more to the project than just biting eggs, so I wrote another description.

Countess Azel – Female CB Montague Vampire (4G)
Accepted sometime before 22.04.2014.

For all her distance in bloodline to Count Montague, Countess Azel is nonetheless a pure Montague at heart. She takes all the purported ideals of the family literally and adheres to the spirit of the (unspoken) law, even treating Capulets she comes across with respect as long as they don’t try to physically attack her. While this stubborn adherence to family values comes across as patronising to some, Azel truly believes it virtuous and means no harm to vampire kind with her point of view. Her outlook has Count Secundus in particular sneering at her behind his back – but perhaps he doesn’t realise just how cunning and cruel she can be when pushed just the right way, when her so precious composure finally snaps, however exceedingly rare the event. Nonetheless, she’s one of the weaker Montagues, largely owing to her lack of thralls and tendency to inoffensively mooch off those of other Montagues, giving her no steady source of power, forcing her rely chiefly on the element of surprise.

  • Abstain: *to rely. Other than that, it is good. =)
…oh crap. XD I totally missed that and there are only two characters I can use left… welp, time to rewrite.

This description took me longer than it should have to write, but it’s the third Montague on my scroll to be described (which at the time of writing completed my Montague descriptions, meaning I’d caught up with the Count Project description backlog).

Countess Demonne – Female CB Montague Vampire (4G)
Accepted sometime before 22.04.2014.

Countess Demonne takes her name not from demons of lore as some might suspect, but from her debating skill and her habit of ending a soft-spoken but lengthy exposition with the words ‘quod erat demonstrandum’. Quick-witted, silver-tongued and often underestimated in a social context, Demonne’s primary shortfall is her regrettably obvious physical inferiority relative to the average vampire. This fact has left her with no rank of note within her clan, though this has not chipped at her pride. Her sire, Count Leroy, keeps her integrated amongst the Montagues and grants her the occasional intellectual task, having learnt to deal with her excessive nitpicking out of appreciation for her thorough execution.

  • Accept: Love it!

  • Accept: Looks good to me. :) ~D

Yet another Montague description! This dragon’s code is QiDME and I immediately had to think of q.e.d. when I saw it. As such, I genuinely picked the name Demonne as a pun-tastic shorthand for demonstrandum.

Countess Fuchsia – Female EG Montague Vampire (2G)
Accepted sometime before 22.04.2014.

Countess Fuchsia is a proud second-generation Montague vampire, enjoying a high status within the family as the fourth childe of the Countess Montague. She runs her own branch of the family as a loose matriarchy. Despite a predominant taste in woman, she’s taken long-term interest in Count Daedalus, enjoying his outward diplomatic manner… and of course his ‘equal’ status in the family, making him a valuable asset to her.
She takes interest in racing events, keeping a ‘stable’ of cruelly tamed hellhorses deliberately stunted in their intellectual growth for her personal pleasure, their aggression channelled into rule-free, brutal races against each other. These don’t always proceed in a strictly linear fashion and often end with wounds or even casualties to deal with after the fact. It’s her way to disassociate with her lineage, being initially born of hellhorse parents herself, now viciously denouncing their kind as mere animals.

  • Accept: Nice -
  • Abstain: child not childe
Guess someone doesn’t know vampire lore :)
  • Accept: Good job! ~D

My fifth Montague, described on the day she bit her first egg. <3 She turned out quite a bit darker than I even intended, but I’m not objecting. :)

Non-Montague

Grin Grim – Undercover Janitor – Female Vampire
Accepted sometime before 15.10.2013.

Grin Grim fears for her reputation as a vampire. Whenever she knows others to be nearby, she maintains her facade of a hissing, cunning beast, but the moment the cave in her close vicinity is vacant, she indulges in her true obsession: Cleaning. Everything must be meticulously spotless, polished, sorted and categorised – and oh, how necessary it is! She doesn’t think to reprimand anyone about litter left behind; not only would that blow her cover, but it genuinely doesn’t occur to her – after all, it lets her clean, and there’s nothing she’d rather be doing.
Of course, owing to that the metamorphosis from filthy to clean cave does not go unnoticed, most other dragons have long since caught on to her unusual obsession and cherish her for her household fervour, but out of respect for her evident shame about her atypical behaviour don’t address her directly. Instead, they simply try to be as polite and helpful to her as her alter ego allows.

  • Accept: Yay for corrections :) -H
  • Accept: Interesting :) ~PG
  • Accept:
  • Accept: Lowercase “Cleaning”. ~D

Grin Grim was my first vampire, gifted to me on the condition I give her a silly name. One evening I was looking for a mental distraction, and seized upon the opportunity to give her an equally silly (but faithful!) description, and this is the result.

Countess Raccolta – Female 3G Montague vampire (3G)
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Amongst the Montagues, Countess Raccolta considers herself something of an independant spirit. Perhaps owing to her sire’s seclusion, she feels no particular bond to the family itself, despite holding its core tenets dear.
Dominant in personality, Countess Raccolta prefers landscapes that have been tamed to those that run wild. She’s known to stalk the edges of human vineyards, hoping other dragons might wander that way out of curiosity or similar appreciation. Once they do, she’ll watch them for hours, striking purely when they move to leave – a game she plays as much with them as with herself, curbing her hunger as long as she’s capable of it, simply to prove herself in control of her own destiny.

My sixth Montague, and the sixth Montague of mine to be described, is an homage to her own lineage – a silver-harvest checker. From the metallic component, I took her independence (which was only reinforced by her sire’s description), and from the harvest component I took her love for vineyards.

Her Paleness Aru’ak – Female 4G vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Her Paleness Aru’ak is obsessed with vivid colours, finding her own discolouration unfortunate. Occasionally, she can be seen with bright purple and blue markings decorating her forelimbs, an homage to her lineage of lively colours. She’s theorised that it might even be best if she took this on as a permanent habit, expanding it to the rest of her body, as the deep purples and blues might provide much better camouflage for her hunt after nightfall than her light skin.

I felt like describing madame Paleness one day – generally, I love my vampires very much and so I figured maybe I shouldn’t just be describing the Montagues. :)

Bitten Apple – Male 4G vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Bitten Apple appreciates non-vampiric dragons to the point where he’s willing to go out of his way to make them comfortable. As a general rule, unless completely starved, he will only feed from the willing – and prior to doing so will often feed his ‘victims’, as well as attempt to be exceptionally good company. He has a particular fascination with fruit and is especially happy to spend his nights gathering them for fructivore dragons. Even most of the stories he tells are fairy tales that rank around fruit – magical, poisoned, illusionary or otherwise pivotal. With rich variation in the rest of the narrative, he’s made a name for himself as a story-teller – and as they are passed on, this de-facto signature often makes them recognisably his.

  • Abstain: it’s frugivorous ! for fruit eaters —- illusionary?
Humm, frugivorous does seem to be more common a term; but I’m not tempted to change it. That being said, I have no idea what the user’s question is about. :)

Crimson Resurrection – Male 4G vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Crimson Resurrection has a taste in the borderline unobtainable. A mediocre swimmer despite his valiant attempts to increase his skill in the matter, he thirsts for the blood of sea serpents, claiming a distinct, pleasant bitter tinge to their viscous blood that he’s particularly fond of. His vampire kin suggest that he might be better off simply dusting the necks of nicely paralysed land-bound dragons with spices to same effect, but he’ll have none of that. His mate, Silvermoon Sa’ar, is apprehensive about his habits, fearing that he might one day misjudge his capabilities and succumb to a second death beneath the waves.

It was surprisingly difficult to figure out something to write about this fellow, but the idea of a vampire dragon hunting for deepseas and water dragons was just too good to pass on once I had that mental image.

Silvermoon S’aar – Female 4G vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Silvermoon S’aar is a quiet dragon, fond of her habits and easily deterred by change. As such, it came as quite a surprise to others when she took Crimson Resurrection as her mate, a vampire dragon known for bizarre hunting stunts well outside the vampiric norm. Some have the theory that in having such an eccentric mate, the worst of her worries are bundled and focussed, making it much easier for her to push them aside and relax – after all, Crimson Resurrection is an adult and can probably handle himself.

  • Accept: focused
Sigh. This is going to keep happening, isn’t it? 8D “focussed” is fine, people, look it up.

Vampire the Undead – Male 2G vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Vampire the Undead appears to be a bit linguistically challenged. His compulsion of swapping nouns and adjectives around in his speech causes quite a headache in anyone that tries to deal with him. Fortunately, however, he’s peaceful and amicable for a vampire, which allows other dragons to appreciate him… as long as he keeps his mouth shut.

Short and sweet, this description came about as a direct homage to the vampire’s name, which in turn is a direct homage to his parents’ names: Sunstone the Female and Moonstone the Male. Clearly the speech impediment runs in the family.

Bad Chemistry – Female 3G vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Bad Chemistry finds herself frequently dismayed at her inability to pass the gift of vampirism to pygmy dragons and drakes. From her perspective, the worst that can happen to a starving vampire is a state of torpor – something they can always be awakened from – while a starving dragon of the regular kind has no such benefit. Instead, it faces death and decay, notions that deeply unsettle her. Of course, vampires can be killed just as well, she argues, but according to her it takes a dimwitted fool to die passively when blessed with vampiric undeath. When adult dragons deny her the right to grant their children not yet hatched her so-called ‘improved immortality’, she often loses her temper, accusing them of short-sightedness in their protectiveness.

Putrid Gold – Male 4G vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Part of Arielle Lemieux’s branch of the Immolator vampire clan, Putrid Gold has a masochistic fascination with the oil of turpentine dragons. The worse the burn, the more he enjoys it etching at his skin, and thus can often be seen stroking the wings of turpentine dragons complacent enough to tolerate his presence until his arms are lathered with the substance, only to lounge somewhere and simply indulge in the sensation. Even if pressed he would hardly describe it as a pleasant feeling, but that observation puts no damper on his addiction to it.
Some dragons underestimate him for the hours he wastes in that trance-like state of purely self-inflicted pain, but he’s a swift beast and all too keen in sharing the feeling with the victims of his vampirism, caressing their muzzles with oil-covered claws… and occasionally dragging those same claws punishingly through scales, increasing the sting tenfold.

Hnnngh; this is clearly the best possible use for turpentine dragon oil. It’s also the first Immolator reference I wrote. (Mercurian Steele, Narayan Steele and Arielle Lemieux were all being difficult at this point in time and not wanting to be written. You’d think it’d be easy, given they’re all Nightchilder characters, but alas…)

Count Lacerat – Male 3G Montague vampire (4G)
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Socially quite distant to the core Montague family, infected by the independence and rural lifestyle of his sire, Count Lacerat is wholly smitten with Count Secundus. While he certainly recognises that physical aggression is not the Montague way and himself prefers subterfuge and manipulation to teeth and claws when interacting with the average dragon, he’s convinced the Capulets deserve to be treated according to their own wretched ideals. In practise he poses little danger to the members of the Capulet line crossing his path, whom he simply avoids… but woe to those Montagues he suspects to be Capulet spies. It’s those he would incapacitate and torture if given a chance.

My little vigilante Montague… more dangerous to his fellow Montagues than he is for the Capulets. Go figure.

Mercurian Steele – Male CB vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Mercurian and Narayan Steele lead the Immolators clan of vampires as brothers. The clan subsists on pain and fear, albeit neither those of its opponents nor as a means of subjugation. Instead, it’s held together by the belief that in the near-immortality granted by undeath, what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, embracing a masochistic lifestyle as a means to relentless self-improvement.
Mercurian complements his brother’s social grace and diplomacy with swift judgement and brute strength, viewing himself as a protector of his kin, merciless toward those who would declare themselves their enemy. Jovial but capricious, even his clan mates know to be wary of him. Those who would seek to oppose him would do well not to underestimate his intelligence, however – he may be the muscle, but he’s difficult to outwit. Should someone truly best him, he may be in no hurry to cash in on his grudge… but he never forgets. Vengeance is a dish best served cold.

It took much longer than I wanted, but I finally managed to hash out a description for my Nightchilder/Ravenblack homage Mercurian Steele. There’s much more that can be said about Mercurian, who is a complex character with a fierce temper but some glaring emotional weaknesses, easy to goad into violence and political missteps, but this is about as much as can be said in that small a space.

Narayan Steele – Male CB vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

If pressed, Narayan Steele would consider himself something of an accountant; perhaps an ambassador. One might presume the leader of the Immolator clan of vampires to jest with such statements, but in truth he’s an earnest believer in that leadership is an act of subservience, not of dominance. It’s that point of view that makes him the true centrepiece of the clan, of course, and gives him his reach – it’s Narayan the others come to in trust, not his co-leader and brother, Mercurian.
Keeping relations to other clans or families in strict neutrality, Narayan is renowned for a way with diplomatic words. However, despite his caution with strangers, some acquaintances might discover his vibrant mischievous streak, often when they least expect it – though should they take any genuine harm, he’d hardly forgive himself.
Pure pacifist that he is, Narayan’s most chilling moments are those in which he merely steps back, choosing not to intervene in his brother’s feral cruelty.

I initially thought of copying over the Immolators description for Narayan, but it’s not actually as important to his personality what the clan is about and leaving it out let me use more of the precious space to describe Narayan himself – something that looks like it was a good decision. :)

Arielle Lemieux – Female CB vampire
Accepted sometime before 21.06.2015.

Arielle Lemieux also answers to ‘Aranel’ and leads a branch of the Immolator clan of vampires away from their core territory, answering directly to Mercurian and Narayan Steele – assuming something needs to be discussed. A wholly independent spirit, Aranel is frequently out of touch with the true leaders, but she’s so deeply rooted in the philosophies sustaining it that she’s effortlessly become an informal third co-leader of the clan despite her long absences.
Her personality is borderline flamboyant – extroverted and flirtatious, she has some qualities of a femme fatale, but her uncompromising honesty would make it difficult for anyone to be led astray. She likes it that way; she certainly wouldn’t want anyone to get any wrong impressions.
Despite her personality, she follows after Narayan’s philosophy of leadership, believing herself a servant of her people first and foremost, pouring most of her vibrant enthusiasm into efforts toward the good of the clan.

At last, the final Immolator leadership description is written. Arielle’s a minor NPC in the Immolator plotline of Nightchilder, but her status as the de-facto third clan leader is nonetheless accurate. Since she’s not been played all that much in Nightchilder canon, the above description is actually quite exhaustive when it comes to her personality.
